Teaching philosophy
I value connections as a foundation in my teaching. Through understanding relationships and expectations between the students, parents and the teacher, I hope to foster an encouraging and motivating learning atmosphere in the studio. Through creating musical and emotional bonds between the student and the composer, I believe to assist the students to become an independent learner and thinker. Through recognizing and being attentive to the student’s correlation between sound and physical choreography, I wish to enable students to become a secure player. Through presenting a clear verbal and/or musical communication between the students and the listeners, my goal is to build a compassionate, encouraging and a pleasant classroom. Though my teaching stems from classical training, the student’s curriculum is tailored to the student’s interests and goals. Each semester, I assign comprehensive music repertoire based on student’s level and needs in skills and artistry. I understand that each student is joining with different goals and visions for their piano playing. For that reason, I provide technique exercises, ear training, sight-reading and solo and ensemble pieces to enhance the basic functioning skills. As a musician, I believe in the importance of performing. This means that students are encouraged to memorize and polish their assigned repertoire and perform in group classes and/or end-of-the-semester concerts. This is an excellent opportunity for the students to practice public presentations. It is not required, but strongly recommend for all students to participate in listening and performing. It is always a pleasure to share the music with friends and family members. As a teacher, I challenge myself to set an excellent example as a teacher and a mentor. I am an active member of a local music teacher’s national organization. I attend state conferences and seminars regularly to continue educating and bettering myself as a musician and an instructor. It is my goal to treat each student fairly and kindly. Now, I would like to welcome you to join on this musical journey! |
